If you’ve followed Perfect Duluth Day for long, you know how to play “Where in Duluth?” A photo from an undisclosed spot is posted, people guess the location in the comments, someone eventually gets it right and everyone else admires that person’s brilliance. But now, as part of PDD’s 15th anniversary celebration, there are prizes on the line.
Duluth’s Duluthiest website celebrates its anniversary on Friday, June 29, at Wade Stadium as the Duluth Huskies face the Thunder Bay Border Cats in Northwoods League baseball. PDD will have a canopy at the game from 6 to 9 p.m. and representatives will be on hand to pass out birthday cake and give away various prizes. There will also be a drawing with 15 names in it for three special prizes — for the “Where in Duluth?” champions.
Here’s how the “Where in Duluth?” challenge works:
- As opposed to the usual “Where in Duluth?” posts, the contest images will feature the PDD Angry Seagull mascot in the frame.
- As usual, the first person to guess the correct location in the comments to the post is the winner.
- Each winner will be entered into a drawing for the three fabulous prizes.
- The drawing will be held at Wade Stadium the night of the party. Winners need not be present to collect a prize.
Prizes:
Loll Chair: A charcoal grey Adirondack chair from Loll Designs. Check out more from Loll Designs on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
Daypack: A North Bay Daypack with padded laptop sleeve from Frost River. This classic pack is styled in waxed canvas. Check out more from Frost River on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
Rafting Adventure: A 4-to-6-person excursion from Minnesota Whitewater Rafting. The winner will receive a certificate good for a 4.4-mile trip on the St. Louis River this summer in a dam-controlled area. Learn more about Minnesota Whitewater Rafting on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
Good luck with your “Where in Duluth?” speed and skills. See you at PDDXV!

Under the 21st ave west freeway bridges….
Incorrect.
Standing next to Troy Roger’s Robot Rickshaw Mobilization Vehicle (formerly a U-Haul truck).
That’s a damn good guess, but incorrect.
My vague answer is a downtown business bldg. garage door…??
Thought I was on a roll getting 2 in a row but I’ve lost my mojo…these last two pics are taxing what’s left of my brain…?
It is not on any business building or garage door. This is a tough one. If you haven’t walked past it there is really no way of figuring this one out. But with enough clues I suppose anyone could get it.
I know I’ve seen that one. Driving me nuts that I can’t remember. By CHUM?
Graffiti Graveyard
It’s not by CHUM or Graffiti Graveyard.
Uhhh…how about graffiti on a train car?
Graffiti on a train car or shipping container is correct. But the location is needed for a solve.
Down by the Depot/Library
At the far end of the parking ramp on the side of The Depot where overflow parking lot oversees railroad tracks…??
Or off Railroad Street where train cars are parked across from empty slip next to Pier B slip
I’m gonna guess it’s on the tracks out west by Loll designs, around 59th 7 Waseca
Not at the Depot, Pier B or Loll Designs vicinities.
Yeesh, then down at the end of the port terminal at Rices point by the UPS center. I can’t think of anywhere else besides soup town where trains sit still long enough,
There’s a few rail cars abandoned in front of Pier B.
It’s not at Rice’s Point or Pier B. Think farther west.
Sherburne St. ~ ?
Nope, not Sherburne Street.
Port Terminal
Keene Creek/Grassy Point
West of the Goodwill store
Out behind New Page Corp.
All incorrect. The closest two guesses so far, geographically, are Sherburne Street and the tracks near Loll Designs.
Behind Jackson Auto 63rd W and Grand ~ Final Answer! Lol?
Jackson Auto is a little bit farther away than the two best guesses so far. “Go west, young man, go west.”
Keene creek
Keep looking west … and of course, like most Duluthians, when I say “west” I mean “southwest.”
Central avenue
Getting colder.
Near Munger Landing
That is the closest guess so far! But not quite close enough.
Near Boy Scout landing?
Spring Street…(closet named stree)t…seems to be near a boat storage area lot…say ‘Yes’ please !Lol?
Not Boy Scout Landing.
It’s not on Spring Street, but Somethin2say is red hot with that guess.
Western Waterfront trail?
It’s not on the Western Waterfront Trail … at least not what is officially considered the Western Waterfront Trail at this time in history.
Tate and Lyle is all I can find it called on the map. It used to be where they made citric acid for Tang.
Keep going southwest, Jim.
DWP Trail?
DWP Trail is incorrect.
Enhance. Enhance. Enhance. There appears to be some cars sitting on the tracks at the end of Lenroot Street off a trail through the woods.
Those are the same ones I saw with Spring St. to the other end with the boat storage lot across from the train car I thought was of the pic
Special K edged out Somethin2say with a slightly better description. The subject of our photo is just off the Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad tracks, near Spirit Lake Marina, closer to Lenroot Street than Spring Street.
As your on-the-spot reporter I can show what the scene looks like this morning.
So congrats, Special K, you got #15 and closed out our “Where in Duluth?” competition. The drawing for prizes will be tonight at Wade.
Congrats! Thanx for ending the crazy madness Special K! I can finally get my life back…Lol! And Thanx Paul (and Perfectduluthday)for all the maddening fun. I need to pay better attention to my surroundings! ?
Wish I could be at the festivities tonight to continue the fun craziness but have previous engagement…have a fun & memorable time to all who attend. Enjoy!
Was at that exact location at 9 am knowing I had seen that grafitti either near Clyde or Spirit but missed it! Was fun! Congrats to finder!
