Here’s what is known about this photo: It was shot prior to 1997 and was part of the Budgeteer Press photo collection that was disposed of just before the name of the weekly paper changed to Budgeteer News.
The image likely appeared on the cover of the Budge across four columns. Scribbled on the back of the photo: “Budgeteer 4 col front page neg.”
What pool is this? What year was the photo taken? Who are these swimmers?

Looks like they’re wearing mermaid tails or formal gowns.
Since there’s a lane line at the bottom of the pool it’s set up for sport swimming, so that rules out all the hotel pools. Do any of the local schools have competitive pools? The YMCA?
It’s the Proctor pool around 1973. They used to put on water show in the spring with synchronized swimming routines. These girls were classmates of mine. Sherry K, Terry S, Terry B, Kathy B and Dorian S.
I was thinking it looked like the bottom of the Morgan Park School pool, shown above in a still from the “Skateboarding in Morgan Park” video, but I guess all those lines to mark swimming lanes are basically the same from one pool to the next. So I will trust Cathrine has solved our mystery and it’s the Proctor pool.
Further confirmation on Facebook from Terri Corey: “School year 72/73. Pool is Proctor. Event is the annual Watershow. Girls are Sherryl Kliegle, Terry Smith, Terri Bijold, Kathleen Beron, Dorian Samskar in their mermaid costumes.”
