Wendy, you are absolutely correct. Central was built in 1892 and this map is from 1893. I initially posted it as “1883” by mistake, but your comment alerted me to my blunder.
I have always wondered what the neighborhood around Old Central was like when it was built. It seems like it needs a more stately “campus.” Now the downhill neighborhood is mostly seedy boarding houses or bars. Back then … what?

Is that the Central High School at the bottom and also left-center? I thought the school wasn’t built until 1892?
