Walking along Superior Street today I noticed several Toasty’s menus conspicuously leaning in the window of the former Farley’s (among others) location.
A quick Facebook search reveals a post which includes:
“Here is a sneak peek of Toasty’s Sandwich Shop. Located downtown on Superior Street. Scheduled to open Fall of 2015”
Will Toasty’s succeed where so many others have failed? Is the location in fact cursed? What caused the most recent downfall of Farley’s? Discuss!

To maintain our tradition of repeatedly posting a rundown on 220 W. Superior St.:
Well, they say that 90% of restaurants fail so I guess statistically… it’s time for another winner like Mr. Nick’s Famous Charburger that lasted 26 years.
Wow, that location knows how to keep customers away. I really hope Toasty’s can succeed downtown. I know that they posted this update on their facebook page and said they look forward to catering.
Does anyone else ever feel like the DNT is sourcing their stories from this website? Or, is it strictly coincidence that the blog posts and the articles always pop up within one day of each other?
As a side note: I liked Jalapeno Express. Did they fail because their customer base declined to the point where they couldn’t sustain the business, or was it more a cost of overhead (rent) / financial management issue?
As long as they can serve a lunch that costs less than $10 that I can’t easily get elsewhere, are realistic about the fact that west of Lake Ave becomes a ghost town after 5:30, and have consistent quality/availability, maybe they’ll do OK.
Farley’s and Jalapeno Express each failed on one or all of those criteria.
I never went to Farley’s, was surprised to see it had closed. My coworkers ordered from them once or twice. The burgers were priced too high. $9.99 or $10.99. The space is kind of small. Having quick take out food at lunchtime is a good idea.
I loved the horchata at Jalopeno and went there to eat mediocre food in a terrible environment for the horchata alone.
Farley’s was overpriced mediocre food in a terrible environment, so I went twice and stopped.
Until the property owner treats it like an investment, remodeling it to be a good space to eat in, I can’t imagine wanting to pay anything more than Chipotle prices to eat there. It’s just loud, overlit, and uncomfortable.
