Wrestling icon Verne Gagne died late Monday night. In recent years he struggled with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Gagne was best known for operating the American Wrestling Association out of the Twin Cities. He was an accomplished amateur wrestler, 10-time AWA World Heavyweight Champion and trained the vast majority of the superstars of the 1980s and ’90s.
Below is Gagne taking on “Scrap Iron” Gadaski with Khosrow Vaziri as referee. Vaziri would later become a WWF champion and Twitter sensation as the Iron Sheik.

He also killed a guy in the nursing home where he was living.
Well, yeah, but let’s not let one measly homicide tarnish a man’s reputation.
Lest people create a snap judgement based on the previous two posts, it is probably important to note that he had dementia at the time of the incident:
“On March 12, 2009, the Hennepin County Prosecutor’s office officially announced that Gagne will not be criminally charged as a result of the death. Because of Gagne’s dementia, he lacked the mental capacity necessary to have intended to harm Gutmann.”
Gotta love today’s society. Everyone has to blame someone for anything.
The Guy did a lot of good for a lot of people.
RIP Vern
