However, I do have disturbing memories of this show, to-wit: my friend and I would play Scooby-Doo, and would argue over who ‘got’ to be Daphne, and who ‘had’ to be Velma. Also, Velma the non-pretty girl was the smart one, and Daphne the Beautiful was not too bright. So was Scooby-Doo ultimately a misogynistic cartoon with a non-feminist message?
Definitely a topic for Nerd Nite.

I mean, I’m happily married and not a toonophiliac, but zoinks!
1. I cannot believe that you know Velma’s last name.
2. I admit that Velma has a ‘fetching’ (get it) smile, and maybe it was just Fred’s influence, but I always thought Daphne was the beautiful one. Maybe I am the misogynist! Or maybe one of us has had too many Scooby Snacks to be able to judge this clearly.
3. And lastly, in any event, Fred and his weird cravat thing were just wrong, and not a good role model for anyone. That honor, of course, goes to Shaggy.

I believe that Fred wore an ascot, not a cravat. Perhaps he had unsightly skin tags that he wanted to cover up, but didn’t like the feeling of turtlenecks.
Yee-ikes, it’s time I upgrade to wanting to be Velma-circa-2013. she can clearly kick my ass. And Daphne’s ass. and possibly the entire staff of PDD’s ass.
