I know this is super early (as it’s only the beginning of November), but does anyone know of any Christmas tree farms in the area where you can cut your own tree? I somehow ran out of time last year and had to get a pre-cut one. So I’m getting started early trying to find a cut-your-own farm.
Also, could you include addresses and times/dates open if you know them?

Keith Miernicki is out in Saginaw at Superior Stove Works. You head west on Highway 2 and you will see signs to turn to the right on Aune Road. It’s $30/tree, if the price stayed the same as last year, regardless the size.

Below is a link to a similar PDD post from 2010, though it focuses more on where to buy a tree that’s already been cut down.

We go to Pine Knob Tree Farm on Anderson Road (near-ish the mall, a little past Haines Rd.) every year. You can go out now and tag your tree (and clean out the leaves and dead needles), and when you’re ready to take it home, you’re all set.
We cut ours from the Chub Lake Tree Farm. Pricing depends on the size and type of tree. Our preference is for the Frasier Fir as it really holds its needles better. They will even provide free saw, sled and other items to assist in cutting your tree. Or, if you wish, you can buy it pre-cut. The farm is owned by the Whorton family.
The USDA Forest Service allows for christmas tree cutting on the Superior National Forest. The cost is very minimal and all that’s needed is a permit available at the Supervisor’s Office in Duluth, 89th Street and Grand Avenue Place. Call Monday through Friday, year round: 8:00 – 4:30 – 218-626-4300
There’s a place on the McQuade Road heading up the shore. I really can’t remember or find the address, but its a few miles down the road on the right. Fair prices, and if you find one that you might need to cut halfway up, he’s fine with it because he uses the bottom half for wreaths.
Boulder Lake also has a day where you can come and cut a tree. It looks to be Dec. 3 this year. Here’s a PDF file about it.
I’m not sure of the legalities, so you didn’t hear it from me … I go up the shore to a certain power line and cut my own, because at some point, like every couple years, the power company goes through and cuts everything, so I’ve found very nice trees not far from the road.
I drove more than five miles up from Hwy. 61 and never found the the one on McQuade. Anyone else have luck?

From This Morning’s Newsletter:
Good morning!
Well, winter is finally here and people are really getting into the holiday spirit. If you still have not gotten your Christmas tree or wreath, it is not too late.
Farmer Doug is at the Farmer’s Market every day:
M-F 1pm to 7pm
Sat from 9am – 6pm
Sun from 11am to 6pm.
You can get your locally grown and fresh cut trees from him.
The wreaths are being made every day.
Then, for some excitement, Cassie DeRosier from Minnesota Grown will be at the Market on Thursday from about 1:30 – 3:30.
She is conducting a survey on fresh Christmas trees and will be promoting “Minnesota Grown”. Come in and complete a survey, and get a free coffee cup. The coffee pot will be on.
See you at the Market.
