Duluth Hash House Harriers

I’m looking to see if we have an established HHH group in Duluth? If not we should it started up!

  1. I was looking to start a kennel three or four years ago. The Land o’ Lakes kennel down in the cities would be willing to start up/sponsor, etc. to help get things running.

I’m not sure how far my knees would be willing to carry me these days but I’d certainly give it a shot. I used to belong to a kennel when I was in the Navy.

If you need the LoL inf, ping me via email. I’ll shoot you the rest.

  2. Haha all great suggestions. If you want to help me out you can call or text me at 218-220-9712. Or shoot me an email at kdillehay @ aol.com, my name is Karen. If not I’ll try to organize it myself and post when I get more info! My buddy Rambo had a twin ports gang going back in 2007 but I’m pretty sure they’ve disbanded.

  3. Yes, I am pretty sure I heard a fellow Duluthian complaining how her running group had become more about post-running drinking/bitching/drama than she cared for. Something to think about.

  4. I think if the group is large enough and some slight framework is established the post-running drama can be minimized.

I like the idea of following a trail or a hare makes it easier to minimize people showing up just to drink.

How unorganized should the organization be?

  5. Well, generally speaking, you have to have some sort of organizational cohesion. We were pretty loosely put together on board ship. I think the chief navigator was the unofficial “leader” of the pack, just by rank or summat like that.

If we’re running in town, it might be a good thing to let the local constabulary know about our goings on lest they assume we’re up to no good, what with trail markings and all.

  6. I’d prefer a fair amount of organization, one of my friends is a grand master and she’s helping me work out the kinks, as far as trails go I prefer “live hare” just to keep things interesting and vary the distance every time. It would be nice to have a good core group so its more fun and worth while for everyone. Zra also knows some folks to help. Does anyone feel it would be productive to meet somewhere and “hash” things out?

  7. I would be game to help out. I know a lot of runners, most of them drink beer. How fast does the hare need to be? I’ll send an e-mail to the address posted above. The hills and patches of green space in Duluth could make things interesting.

  8. As a new runner, and a fairly slow one, I am always looking for a way to mix it up. This sounds like a lot of fun. I’m excited to hear more as it gets closer to the streets/trails.

  9. I’d like the runs too be fairly challenging and hopefully have a tricky hare as opposed to a fast one, that way the faster runners can “sniff out the trail” giving some of those bringing up the rear a chance to catch up.

I’ll be visiting Duluth from the 10th to the 15th of April and would love to meet up with your kennel if schedules will allow it. I currently Hash with the Big Heads Hash House Harriers in Rapid City SD.

    On-On!

  11. This sounds very interesting. I’m new to town and a new runner. I also like to drink beer. I’m looking forward to hearing more about it.

I’m glad there has been so much positive feedback, hopefully everyone can make it the weekend of the 23rd/24th, one of my friends holds the official vessel for the twin ports and they will be up in duluth on the 24th to help, his wife abby has been a grand master for a very long time and they will help us get organized.

  13. I’m not sure if the choice of Easter Sunday for the first run was intentional or an oversight, but here’s making sure you’re aware of the holiday implications.

  14. Stupid out-of-town in-laws with their Easter plans. Have fun out there; I hope to make it to the next one!

  15. Don’t know if this thread is dead, but, if not, is this hash still going? I’m new to the area, and used to hash a lot abroad (was on the Beirut Tarboush HHH Mismanagement Committee, 03-06) and domestically sporadically. Though the new job and new children keep me insanely busy, I’d be interested in helping out when possible.

  16. @Nancy I’m a Hasher in New Orleans, coming to Bemidji for June. Email rosyinferno@yahoo.com or Chew Toy on Hashspace if you’d like to do a pick up during the month in June in Bemidji. I know some virgins that would like a taste there!!
