Elton John at Amsoil Arena on May 6

Elton John will be the first big headliner to grace the new Amsoil Arena on May 6. Tickets go on sale Monday, Feb. 14, and range from $27-127.

Michael Buble will also perform at the Amsoil Arena on June 25.

Anyone else super excited?

  1. How Elton got such a good time slot at a good venue seems a bit fishy. Last year he played the 6 pm slot Thursday at Sir Ben’s, now suddenly he’ll be at the DECC?!! Is that baby-making mayor of ours still doing the schedule? If so, I call turkey!

  2. Hold me closer Tony Dasnza
I’ll show you Who’s The Boss tonight
You made my bed with sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

Sorry IMHO it had to be posted.

  3. As the chair of the Homegrown Steering Committee I’d like to take FULL credit for booking Elton John for Homegrown.

  4. @Jake, thanks now I have to try and be in three places at once.

This Homegrown is getting out of hand. Can we get Kiss to play the NorShor next year?

  5. Elton coming to the Amsoil Arena is awesome. It shows that the facility can now book some “decent” talent. To whomever is responsible, “thanks.”

  6. @ hot shot:

It couldn’t hurt to invite him.

Who knows, he might just show up. Homegrown folk should at least let the promoters in on the HG secret … might pay off, never know.

  7. Couple of points, Elton should be good at kickball, he was part owner of a professional football (soccer) team. Is he donating his $50.00 stipend back to the Homegrown Festival? Can I have his drink tickets cause he don’t do the booze no more. I hope he isn’t booked opposite me (assuming I get a show) as that would make it hard for him to get to my gig.

  8. OMG, someone should invite him to Homegrown!!!! I remember the first time I saw Bruce — in Chapel Hill and after most of the crowd had left after the show the band came back on and played some more, b/c Bruce said, otherwise they’d just be sitting in their hotel. Same with Elton John! He might want to make a surprise appearance somewhere and play a little more! Those juices are running after those shows, I am sure!

I think I may have to bare-knuckle fight that damn Michael Buble. I’m sick of him calling everyone ‘kid’!

  10. As somebody who is not a fan of the past twenty years’ of Elton’s music, I worked as a hand at one of his shows in the eighties … he puts on a hell of a concert.

  11. Does anyone ever come here and not complain?

Finally some big name acts are going to be coming here and people knock it. Granted Buble is just a glorified coverband crooner, but Elton John is pretty big for the area. I grew up with his modern music, which is ok, but the older stuff is timeless. “Mona Lisa and Mad Hatters,” “Goodybye Yellow Brick Road,” “Tony Danza,” and a ton of other tunes are some of the best songs ever written. I am sure he is getting past his prime like someone else said, but hopefully it is just the beginning of exciting things to come!

  12. So I go on “Ticketmaster Dot Com” – to buy 3 tickets at 10:00 a.m. but you can’t. You couldn’t buy 1 or 2 or 3 tickets to Elton John via the net.

But ticket resale organizations like “gotthetix.com” or “ticketliquidator.com” or “arenaduluth.com” have ticket on the main floor that regularly would have sold for $127 plus tax/fees now on sale from $480.00 per seat to $820.00 per seat.

    RIP OFF!

  13. @Bruce
I went on Ticketmaster and purchased 2 tickets without a problem at 10 AM. Wonder if something happened to their system? A few years back that happened for a Springsteen concert and there was a pretty big lawsuit.

  14. Amsoil/DECC allow organizations like Ticketmaster to control the sale of the tickets – then they are bought up in large blocks by ticket resale organization who jack the prices up 5 or 6 times face value!

    Not Happy!

  15. Wow, I lucked out. I do have a pretty fast internet connection, that may have helped. I went on at 10 am and tickets were not for sale yet for like another 3 minutes. I kept refreshing and refreshing the page and the instant the page pulled up with tickets for sale, I bought 2, no problem. I do have a Ticketmaster account, could that have made a difference?

Sorry for the people who weren’t able to get tickets who tried. I heard from a friend the concert sold out in 45 minutes.

  16. Claire..I have a high speed cable connection and was online with my account at 9:55 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and then gave up.

Must have been the luck of the draw, per se –

Congrats to you…We’ve seen him several times before in other locations, and he is well work the price.

    Enjoy.

  17. Thanks Bruce. I am officially pissed off for your sake. I just checked EBay. There are already a bunch of people reselling there at $400 a pop and up. It’s a Friday show, so of course it’s easier to unload tickets for a weekend event. Anyway, I checked the locations of some of the resellers on EBay. They live elsewhere, most I checked live in LA. So this is obviously what they do for a living. *That* ticks me off, that they would deprive locals of seeing the show. Of course, I’ve bought online from Ticketmasters concert tickets at shows in NYC and NJ, but I did so for my own use, not to resell.

  18. James Taylor pre-sells blocks of his tickets on his website and you can only pick them up the day of the concert with id and the credit card used for purchase. This is his choice and he does it so all of us can buy for the price marked on the ticket and minimizes re-sale for huge profits.

  19. Springsteen will drop tickets on Ticketmaster before shows. Fans know that when tickets go on sale and seemingly sell out right away, you still have a chance to nab tickets on TM if you keep your ear to the ground on the fan sites and/or check TM.
