Bentleyville Tour of Lights 2010

That, my fellow Duluthians, is one big ol’ Christmas tree.

  1. It’s not a tree. It’s a metal sculpture that represents or mimics a Christmas tree. I’m not saying it’s not pretty dang cool; I’m just saying it’s not a tree.

    Thank you and Merry Christmas.

  2. Precisely Vicarious. Not a tree, just more whiz-bang and glitter to take your eyes off the real prize. And off the road.

  3. I think it is kind of funny to have the lift bridge sculpture in the foreground, with the real lift bridge in the background.
Whether it is a tree, or a cone, or a sculpture, or a giant coal-fired-megapyre-spectacle-for-christ, it is still pretty.

  4. I affirm Lundgren’s comedic genious. Dry, it is.

I just wish “The Media” would stop calling it a tree. It’s not a tree. There is no wood involved. At all.

  5. I’m guessing there are many Northland families who are having a scaled back celebration this year. How fantastic that they can go to B-ville as a family experience for free.

  6. You boys are so cynical, I love Bentleyville and the lights! And Lucie is right, it’s free fun for a lot of families who are having tough times with the economy being the way it is.

    Merry Christmas!

  7. I get Barrett’s comment now. It only took my 18 hours. Nice one, Barrett…I may have to surreptitiously attach a small “This is not a tree” note to the Christmas Cone.

  8. RedIguana, I love it! Christmas Cone indeed. I like how you can see through the lift bridge to see the cone.

  9. Yeah, I got it without “getting it”…misplaced the reference with the title, then mentally intermingled the misplaced title with Magritte’s caption.

(translated: I was tired and I’m dumb)

  10. On Sunday night with a friend who drove up from Mpls, I visited both Bentleyville and Marcia Hale’s Holiday Spirit in the Lights displays for the first time. While Bentleyville had a lot to offer to families, we both felt that Holiday Spirit in the Lights won by far hands down for being not so ‘in your face, overdone, and just loud’, but rather quite tasteful and more relaxing. The lights, which reached all the way down to the beach, were a much enjoyed treat, especially enjoying the view back toward the yard, or the city, while hearing the gentle waves. I had driven past Hale’s place over many years taking holiday lights viewing runs down Park Point and was sorry I had never stopped until now.
