Yup…drove about 35-40mph over the bridge today. BTW your SUV/Truck isn’t invincible to weather conditions. I see way too many people who think just because they have 4 wheel drive that they can’t lose control.

Uff, yeah had to go to MSP today. On the way down there was a car completely flipped over about 30 miles out of Duluth. It was the only accident I encountered, but the way back was definitively white knuckle.

I agree 1000% Pablo. I was born and raised in Minnesota, I’m comfortable driving my car in winter weather, commuting 30+ miles each way to work and back. If I could afford gas for an SUV maybe I would have one. I understand that wouldn’t make me invincible anyway, and I am kind of fond of the rare “oh it snowed too much and I can’t get my low car unstuck, guess I can’t make it in to work today” excuse.
My dad made sure he taught me the basics of Minnesota winter driving, made sure that I knew how to go slow, take it easy, allow extra travel time, make sure I’ve got some boots in the trunk and all that jazz.
The only thing I will admit is I miss my old 97 Cavalier. That thing was a tank in the snow compared to my new car. Every time I encounter a jacka$$ in a larger vehicle with a god complex who feels it’s necessary to attach their vehicle to my rear bumper in bad weather, I just crank the radio and flip my mirror so their lights don’t shine in my eyes. Oh you want to flash your brights at me? Sure I’ll wave back (and I do so in a friendly manner because it really pisses people off if they can’t get a rise out of you).
You can’t fix stupid, but you sure can hope they realize they are putting everyone’s life in jeopardy. Safe driving to everyone out there. This is just the beginning!

Living in a rural township with slow to plow country drivers, I rely on & love my 4 wheel drive. However, 4 wheels spin just as easily when it comes to ice. This is a no-brainer. Saw a guy swerve to miss a garbage truck on First Street this morning and ding a firehydrant in the process. Guess he was too busy to see the huge truck with with full on flashers & beeping backing up!

Ahh, I still have a bright/fond memory of a line of SUVs going well over 55 m.p.h. through Minneapolis heading north on I-35, right where it gets curvy. I was cruising with the freeway by myself at ~5am this beautiful Minnesota morning, cruising at a speed I felt safe (~30mph). The whole lot of them missed a corner about 1 mile later. I forgot to mention that the road had a couple inches of snow with a sheet of ice underneath. I waved politely at the people crawling out of their totaled/flipped/ditched vehicles, knowing that since I left early and alloted time for road conditions, I would be at the Anchor Bar by noon and have a burger and pitcher to split with friends while the clowns with a death wish

To The Big E: I live in the East High School area and travel Hawthorne every day. It is the worst street on a snowy/icy day! The worst! And made even more difficult by the inexerienced high school drivers going too fast on slick roads. I’ve flipped the bird to more than one student during my 16 years living there. I solute you! And not with one digit!
