I’m thinking about getting a handheld GPS. We’d use it hiking, maybe try geocaching with the kids and when paddling. So if was waterproof and usable in the car, that’d be great, but not necessary.
Anybody have recommendations or have one they want to get rid of?

I’m quite active in geocaching in the area – it’s a great activity for the family!
Stick with Garmin units. Take a look at their site at basic mapping handhelds. I personally prefer something like the 60, 62, 76, or 78. The 60 and 76 model lines are a few years old now – the 62/78 lines appear to be replacements for them.
Don’t try geocaching, hiking, etc, with an auto GPS (such as a Nuvi). While it technically works, you’ll quickly be disappointed in trying to buy a one-size fits all.
Garmin 60CX or CSX. Easy to use, nice color screen.
That Pear Head is a ‘quite active’ geocacher is a bit of an understatement, I think. *laugh* I’d trust his advice.
I have a Garmin HTC Vista (a few years old, now) that I cache with, and love to pieces. Or I’ve tried to love to pieces – it’s still holding together well. Never used it in a car to navigate, but it is waterproof.
My first handheld was a Magellan, I bought a Garmin eTrex Legend about a year later and got the US topo maps for it. I would highly recommend the Garmin products.
