Fall colors on Lake Superior’s North Shore: Silver Bay and Beaver Bay area

Someone left this for me to find on the footbridge across Penn Creek. Kudos to the artist.

The colors on the hillside of Bean Lake scream out against the calm waters and grey sky.

Whenever I drive by the Beaver Bay Motel, I like to get really angry and tell everyone else in the car that it amazes me in this day and age that people of all races can’t watch the same cable TV.

  1. Great photos…you catch the most ironic stuff. I’d have hiked the same trail and only rhapsodized about botany. This hike is a great one-day adventure from Duluth…an hour drive up there, a good 3-4 hours of hiking, then dink around on the way back for pie, coffee, brews.

  2. Colors are great if you get off the shore 5 miles inland. Good spot is up Temperance River road and then turn left on 600 Road. Colorful trees wrap over the road for a few miles as you head west towards Finland.

  3. Took the Jefferson bus down to the Cities yesterday, *gorgeous* foliage before we hit Hinckley. I love fall, and hope to be able to drive Hwy 23 soon, to do some leaf peeping.
