I just wanted to read more about the Grand Marais Slaw Dog?

My Sisters Place - Slaw Dog

It appears I need to pay $2.95 if I want to read more about the Grand Marais Slaw Dog. WHY?
I understand the rough time print publications are going through these days but $2.95 for one article on Slaw Dogs.  Dang – the Slaw Dog probably does not even cost that much.

$2.95 per article

  1. Sometimes they have links to articles and columns right on their home page that direct you to pay $2.95. That drives me nucking futs.

  2. If you google “Slaw Dog” and “Grand Marais,” the first link will give you the whole article someone pasted on a chatboard. Problem solved!

  3. Sweet Thanks… Now I can afford the slaw dog when I head up there next week. FYI IMHO My Sisters Place has great burgers at decent prices! Jalapeno Burger is one of my favs. Gunflint Tavern also has a great burger and EVEN BETTER Bloody Mary’s.

I hope the steelhead are running next week.

  4. $3 per article is ludicrous. There are papers I would pay for to access online, but not at $3 an article and never the Fargo based DNT.

  5. Yeah, that seems a little steep. I’ve run into that on the Ashland paper’s website, too–$3 is high for basically just having them e-mail you a link to a story. And it’s not like anyone even has to go and dig in an actual file to look something up & copy it for you–I’m sure it’s just some standard database that does it all automatically, right? Maybe the 99-cent iTunes model would encourage more people to search the archives and actually pay for access to them?

  6. ak – I hope you get a cut of the $3 when they sell your article especially since you paid for the all your expenses yourself. I would really like to see the cost analysis that made the DNT come to the conclusion that $3 per article is the right price. Maybe they need to read the book “What would Google do?”

  7. Moving on to the more important point…I’ve enjoyed the combination of good slaw and good BBQ sauce on pulled pork or fall-apart rib meat put on a piece of garlic bread. I’d never considered slopping the combo on a dog. Nice time-saver. Thanks for the article, AK.

  8. I’m talking out of my ass here because I’ve never tried it, but I don’t think bugmenot will help you steal things you’re expected to purchase. It only helps you skip the free registration.

  9. Why in the world has this once decent newspaper gotten so bad so fast? They seem to tailor all of their articles to generate comments from the biggest nutcases in the world! I agree, 3$ an article? You can google most of this stuff on there and find it just the same. It won’t be too long before the Tribune runs itself right into the ground.

  10. Most newspaper do this, I think, though I know as a subscriber to the NY Times, I don’t have to pay anything to get copies of archived articles. I needed the hatchet job the Mpls Star Tribune did on Louise Erdrich after her husband killed himself, and had to pay for it, since I’m not a subscriber.

  11. How about them paying ME $2.95 for having to read these headlines on the DNT Web site right now:

“Scholatica squad joins women’s hockey league” (I’ll read the story when ScholaStica joins)

“Northland issued red-flag wildfire warning” (is Yoda writing headlines now?)
