Now that it’s a winter wonderland outside, my family and I can’t wait to play in the snow! When we’re down in the Cities having fun, we like to rent kicksleds, but here in Duluth I can’t find any place that seems to offer them. I know where to find skis and snowshoes, sleds and ice skates, but I have yet to locate any kicksled rental. Please tell me I’ve missed something. It’s hard to imagine a place much better suited to the fun that kicksledding has to offer, but it appears the Duluth area might be missing out. Thanks for any insight!

What you have missed is an opportunity to start your own kicksled rental business.
Can you also share where you can rent kicksleds in the Twin Cities? My kids have been asking/begging to try this. We’d make a trip to the cities for that!
Looks like the Lebanon Hills park in Dakota County rents them (and has trails).
The Star Tribune had a little article about the sleds in December 2010 that mentioned the Lebanon Hills rentals and a store in Minneapolis that sells them.

Up the shore, this article mentions that Tuscarora Lodge & Outfitters on the Gunflint Trail offers complimentary kicksled rental as part of their packages, but I don’t see any reference to that on the Tuscarora website.
I’d love to see places around Duluth that currently offer equipment rental add a few kicksleds to their lineup. Perhaps UMD RSOP, Hartley, or some of the State Parks? Kicksleds are easy to use, tons of fun, great exercise, and accessible to a greater range of ages and abilities than a lot of other outdoor winter activities. One day my family might just buy our own, but at $300 a pop, it’s a fairly steep entry fee. It’s nice to have a $5-$10 rental option.
