Join us in a “Party for Change” to support Frank Jewell’s campaign for St. Louis County Commissioner. On Thursday, Oct. 7, there will be a silent auction at Zeitgeist from 7-9pm with music from Sarah Thompson and Paula Pedersen. At 9pm we’ll shift over to Luce for a concert featuring DJ Kevin Craig, Shaunna Heckman and Retribution Gospel Choir.
Zeitigeist is a free event that will include hors dourves and a cash bar. The silent auction focuses on local arts and wellness, including items like an energy audit for your home, massage and gift certificates to local restaurants.
Pizza Luce is a 21+ event with an $8 cover at the door.
10% of the proceeds from the night will be donated to the Artist Relief Fund.
Frank Jewell is the DFL and Labor endorsed candidate for the St. Louis County Board’s 1st District, which represents Observation Hill, Central and East Hillside, the colleges and the Heights. I have been a building trades union member for the past 34 years and a veteran who proudly served my country when called upon. I strongly suggest that voters consider the fact that Frank Jewell was a draft dodger who chose not to serve his country when he was called upon. How can he possibly serve the residents of St. Louis County with honor and integrity? I respectfully suggest that your vote does not go to Mr. Jewell.
Draft dodger? You mean, he got a legitimate deferment? Do you think that being in the military automatically makes one honorable or full of integrity? Does being opposed to war make one unfit for public office?

Um, the U.S. has been involved in a number of unlawful wars of aggression. The honorable thing to do is to refuse to take part (although that choice can be very difficult given the control and power of the U.S.). I commend Frank for having the courage to refuse to take part in an imperialist and brutal regime.
Draft dodgers and those who go AWOL (esp. for moral reasons) are both on my Good Guys list.
Even draft dodgers and sons of senators (and other politicians, who surely would have had their asses shot off in VietNam) who now wholly support the war machine?
There are some out there who got out of duty who probably should have experienced war and killing firsthand (I’m looking at you, Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and George Bush). Might have shaped and dictated our current policy of prosecuting “rogue nations.”
I think Mr Fink is the one who lacks integrity: sexual harasssment charges; living like a king on the taxpayer’s dime, traveling around the country (and claiming KY jelly as a business expense, not just the $300/nt hotels); the Fish Lake scandal. I know Frank Jewell and think we need someone sane and honest on that board, I have never seen Mr. Jewell treat a subordinate with disrespect, and I can’t imagine him taking advantage of the lack of oversight over the county commissioners’ travel budgets to live it up on the road. I would hope OGDuluthian would stop obsessing over what someone did 40-45 years ago that was the right thing for that person to do, and is that person’s business, and would instead look a little harder into an elected official’s ongoing peccadilloes that truly impact us as taxpayers.
Anyone who serves time in the slammer for resisting war has got major cojones. Only weenies and chickenhawks would call him a draft dodger.
Ahhh yes, zra… hypocrisy is a problem. Refusing to go to war (one way or another) is not.
I don’t get this mentality that a person is more qualified for office if they served in the military.
