My neighbor’s dad grew up in Gary before the war and would survive the Battle of the Bulge. There is a photo of him in Alaska holding a large dude above his head using the muscle he had put on after the war, a feat considering he’d returned weighing only 98 lbs. A prolific gambler and fighter himself, said they used to hold bare knuckle brawls every Thursday night on the Oliver bridge.
