I’m hoping that the construction site near 28th Avenue West and Superior Street, right beside Mike’s Western Cafe, isn’t for another gas station but I’m ready to be let down. Does anyone know for sure?

I am fairly certain that it is another Kwik Trip. I was going to be snarky and say that any new construction in Duluth is either a Kwik Trip or a Dunkin Donuts but that may actually be a factual statement.
I don’t think Kwik Trip would be THAT crazy. There’s already a new one right across the street.
Here is a photo of the spot in question. It’s the old Peerless Auto Body location at 2831 W. Superior St., which was destroyed by fire in 2010.
I don’t know what is going to be built there, but I took note as I drove by on my way out of town that Viele Contracting and Donald Holm Construction Company have trailers on the property.
Before Peerless, was there a bread company there?
Found this on the DNT site:
There are six RKE Enterprises LLCs in the United States with the closest based in St Cloud.
That was once the site of the Zinsmaster Bakery.
The St. Louis County Assessor lists the owner of the property as RKE Enterprises of St. Cloud.
Duluth Tire and Oil had acquired the property in August 2011, following the Peerless fire. Dave Holappa of Holappa Commercial Real Estate represented Duluth Tire in the 2014 sale of the property.
Follow the link in my previous comment and dig through the comments on that post for all the background on Zinsmaster.
It is not a Kwik Trip. They did not request any bids in 2015 for one to be built on that site.
Given the owner of RKE Enterprises LLCs in St. Cloud my best guess is a heavy equipment rental shop, Heater Rental Service.
It’s looking less and less likely to be a Trader Joe’s… but maybe 🙂
They’re erecting some pretty major SIPs as of yesterday afternoon-
There’s a sign up now indicating it’s the “Future Home of HRS-Rentals,” from which we can conclude that Heater Rental Services — a St. Cloud-based renter of commercial heaters, lift equipment and scaffolding — will now have a location in Duluth’s friendly West End.
